IPL TREATS YOUR DRY EYES…AND YOUR SKIN

Jul 21, 2021

As the research on dry eye disease evolves, we are learning more about the connection to other body systems, including the gut, the immune system, and the skin. A very common skin condition associated with dry eyes, known as rosacea, is now being treated at MVO!

Rosacea is often seen in lighter-skinned people. It can cause redness of the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. People with rosacea can get episodes of flushing, where their skin turns a deeper shade of red. Flushing can be triggered by sun exposure, stress, or certain foods. Rosacea may produce a form of adult acne. The connection between rosacea and dry eye disease is now very clear: the same abnormal blood vessels that cause redness of the facial skin also damage the oil-producing glands of the eyelids. We have learned that treating rosacea along with dry eye disease may produce a more long-lasting effect, while removing the uneven skin tone produced by rosacea and improving our patient’s cosmetic appearance. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an advanced dry eye treatment we are now offering at MVO. It treats the abnormal blood vessels in the eyelids which is a major factor in dry eye disease for many.

We are now offering IPL Photofacial treatments along with IPL for Dry Eye , for our patients affected by rosacea. Expanding the IPL treatment area to the entire face addresses the skin condition more completely, improving cosmetic appearance by treating the inflamed areas directly, and also removing signs of sun damage and evening out skin tone.
