Just what is Titanium, anyway? Titanium is actually the ninth-most abundant element on Earth. It’s found in rock, soil and all living things including the human body. Its extremely high strength to weight ratio made it a material of interest in the military and aerospace industry. Today the uses of Titanium extend to computers, sports gear, medical applications, and now eyeglass frames.

We carry a wide selection of Titanium frames in our eye wear galleries. Our patients love the material because it’s extremely light weight, comfortable but very resistant to breakage. It’s also hypoallergenic meaning that skin does not react to contact with it, unlike other metals used in eyeglass frames. Our staff love it because it’s easy to work with, “holds the adjustments”, meaning that once manipulated into shape it is resistant to going out of shape, and we just don’t see a lot of them coming back needing warranty work.

Your satisfaction with your glasses definitely depends on the accuracy of the prescription and quality of the lenses used, but if the frame you’re using is heavy, clunky, or creates sore spots on the nose or back of the ears, you’re not going to want to wear your glasses no matter how well you see!

We carry 16 frame lines at Mountain View Optometry that are made with Titanium, in many different shapes, colours and styles. Come in for an eye wear consultation to find out which style works the best for your needs.
