World Sight Day is October 27, 2020 at Mountain View Optometry

As a valued patient, we care about protecting your vision. As optometrists, we also care about people around the world who lack access to quality vision care. Many of you know about the eye care missions that doctors and staff of MVO have participated in over the years in developing countries. Another important initiative we have been a part of each year is the World Sight Day Challenge – which we will again participate in on October 27, 2020.

Now in its 14th year, the World Sight Day Challenge is the largest annual global fundraising campaign to address avoidable blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and glasses. The campaign is run by global charity, Optometry Giving Sight.

There are more than 1.2 billion people in the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they do not have access to an eye exam or glasses.

Preventable blindness is a solvable problem and we are proud to help give better vision to those in need. Most people are inspired to learn that as little as $5 can help give an eye exam and a pair of glasses to someone living in an underserved community to transform their lives. Everyone can make a huge difference and we are thrilled to be contributing to Optometry Giving Sight.

On World Sight Day (October 27) Dr. Wilk and Dr. Michele will donate their professional fees to Optometry Giving Sight.

We’d love our patients to get their eyes tested during the Challenge to help raise awareness and funds for this great cause. We invite you to join us in making a donation at our office or at www.givingsight.org

Transforming Lives:

This year’s campaign will help raise funds for more children like Claudia from Mexico. Claudia faced great difficulty in being able to walk to school, see the board and play with her friends: simply because she could not see. The day she received a pair of glasses from an Optometry Giving Sight funded program, everything in her life changed:

“Walking home from school will be easy now,” Claudia said happily. “I can see all my friends’ faces now. I won’t be scared of falling in the river because I cannot see where the path goes. I feel part of my own life again. Maybe now I can learn sports and catch the balls I couldn’t see before!”

Optometry Giving Sight has disbursed funding from donors and sponsors to over 120 projects in 39 countries.
